Maracatu Cachaça Mixology
The Maracatu Hemingway Daiquiri
Created in 1921 at the El Floridita in Havana for Ernest Hemingway and twisted for us Cachaça lovers, this is the perfect refreshing drink. Mr. Hemingway himself still holds the house record for downing 16 of them in one sitting, but we’d advise you start with one and go from there. 50ml Maracatu Cachaça 15ml Maraska Maraschino 15 ml fresh lime juice 25 ml fresh grapefruit juice Lots of ice. Combine all the ingredients in a cocktail shaker. In case you’re not Mr. Hemingway and like your drinks sweet add some sugar syrup to taste. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds with lots of ice. Double strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish: grapefruit and lime slices with a maraschino cherry on a cocktail skewer. |
The classic Maracatu Caipirinha
Although there is a very high chance that you´ve had a caipirinha already, chances are even higher that you were served some horrible caipirinha look-alike. The real thing is very easy and, just ask any Brazilian, this is how it is done: 4 wedges of lime (you should remove the white middle part of the lime as it can be quite bitter. If the lime is not very juicy, use a whole lime cut in 8 wedges) 2 table spoons of white fine sugar Maracatu Cachaça (for the control freaks: 50 ml per drink) Lots of ice. Muddle the lime quarters with the sugar in a rocks glass. Fill glass with ice to the rim. Pour Maracatu Cachaça until it almost covers your ice. Shake well and serve all in the rocks glass. |
There is a lot more than Caipirinha to mix your Maracatu Cachaça into.

The Maracatu Caipifruta
If you ask the folks at Maracatu Cachaça, this is what we prefer over the Caipirinha. Basically replace the limes with any fruit available and vary the sugar content according to the sweetness of your fruits. We get passionate about strawberry and kiwi caipifruta! 1 hand full of fruits White fine sugar as per your liking Maracatu Cachaça (for the control freaks: 50 ml per drink) Lots of ice Muddle the fruits with the sugar in a rocks glass.
